British Airways Introduces New Winter Flights to Lapland

British Airways is expanding its winter travel offerings with the launch of new flights to Lapland, the enchanting home of Santa Claus. Starting December 3, 2024, the airline will offer twice-weekly flights from London Gatwick to Ivalo, Finland’s most northerly airport.

Ivalo, a charming village on the Ivalo River in the Arctic Circle, is renowned for its winter activities and festive atmosphere. The village serves as a gateway to Saariselkä, a popular resort destination for winter sports enthusiasts, offering activities such as skiing, snowmobile safaris, toboggan rides, and snowshoeing.

Visitors to Ivalo can also experience the magic of the Northern Lights Village in Saariselkä, where they can meet Santa Claus himself and enjoy breathtaking views of the northern lights.

Flight Details

The new flights will be operated by BA Euroflyer, British Airways’ short-haul subsidiary based at London Gatwick’s South Terminal. The flights will run twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, until February 14, 2025. Return flights are available now from £345.

 

Expanding Winter Destinations

Tom Stoddart, CEO of BA Euroflyer, expressed enthusiasm for the new route: “Our BA Euroflyer network continues to grow, and we are excited for a new addition to our winter schedule, alongside the likes of Innsbruck and Geneva. Lapland is synonymous with winter, and Ivalo is blanketed in snow for a large part of the year, so customers can expect a white Christmas, with some red and blue sprinkled in from British Airways for good measure.”

Ivalo joins Tromsø in Norway as a new addition to British Airways' winter schedule from London Heathrow, also starting this December.

Additional Winter Routes

In addition to Ivalo, BA Euroflyer has also launched new flights to Larnaca, Cyprus. Starting November 4, 2024, these daily flights will provide morning departures with returns in the late afternoon, offering a choice of departure airports for winter sun seekers.

Larnaca Flight Schedule:

• Daily flights from November 4, 2024, with morning departures and late afternoon returns.
• Saturday flights will operate for the first five weeks only.
