Canada’s Covid-19 new travel regulations
Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos declared:“Let us remember that all measures are subject to review.
“We will continue to adjust them as the epidemiological situation here in Canada and abroad evolves.”
Starting the 1st of April, travellers entering Canada will be tested for Covid-19 based on a random selection at the airport gates. Tourists will no longer be required to present a negative test upon arrival, as the negative test requirements will be dropped starting the same day.
At the same time, vaccination rules have not been subjected to any change. Canada considers a “fully vaccinated traveller” a person that has been given at least two doses of a vaccine, a mix of vaccines or one dose of the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Vaccinated people are given the statute 14 days after the second dose.
AstraZeneca, Bharat Biotech, Janssen/Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, Novavax, Pfizer-BioNTech, Sinopharm and Sinovac are the accepted vaccines.
It is mandatory that the vaccination certificate is written in English or French. For other languages, the “certified translation” and the original certificate will both be required for border presentation.
Partially vaccinated, people with natural immunity or unvaccinated international are not accepted for entry under the aforementioned conditions, unless presenting a valid exemption.
Unvaccinated Canadians also have to follow a set of rules in order to protect others from getting a Covid-19 infection. Two molecular tests and 14 days of quarantine might be necessary when arriving in Canada.
Moreover, domestic travel rules in the country haven’t changed, with vaccination proof required for ships as well as trains here.
Upon arrival, visitors must complete an ArriveCAN App form, including personal and travel details, contact info and vaccination status. Tourists will also be required to have a “quarantine plan” if by any chance they get infected and will test positive during stay. Costs are not covered by the government.
Unvaccinated 12 years old kids and younger don’t need a COVID-19 test to visit Canada.
Nevertheless, all travelling passengers will be asked to wear a mask, except when eating or in possession of a valid exemption.
There are also a few exceptions from the rules:
- Medevac flights and private flights are exempted from vaccine regulations, unless airports don’t require otherwise.
- Cruise ship passengers will be asked to show a negative antigen taken 24 hours before departure, a molecular test 72 hours in advance or present a full vaccination proof before the trip. Strict attention to Covid-19 symptoms will also be required while on trip to destination.
The Canadian authorities have recently published the latest entry regulations as well as a set of travel advisories for both foreign and Canadian nationals to study before either entering or leaving the country.
