Delta and LATAM joint venture approved
The U.S. Department of Transportation agreed that the two carriers joining forces will boost market growth across North and South America.
Delta Air Lines, LATAM Airlines Group, LATAM Airlines Brazil, LATAM Airlines Colombia, LATAM Airlines Peru, and LATAM Airlines Paraguay are set to enhance travel experience for both commercial and cargo flights in new joint venture recently approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Ed Bastian, CEO of Delta Air Lines, declared:
“The Delta-LATAM Joint Venture will help the market grow between North and South America, providing significant benefits for badly needed customers. We applaud the U.S. Department of Transportation for this final approval. We will now work with LATAM to transform the travel experience of all our customers and create new opportunities for our employees.”
Roberto Alvo, CEO of LATAM Airlines Group, added:
"The U.S. Department of Transportation approval will kick-start work with Delta to deliver more and better benefits to LATAM and Delta customers, such as faster connections, combined miles accrual in frequent flyer programs, and many more. I am sure that, over time, we will be able to offer the best connections incorporating a sustainable look forward.”
Following the implementation of the new deal, carriers will focus on developing an industry leading trade agreement between the U.S., Canada and South America. The new venture is also set to develop innovation in the industry, improve customer experience, advocate diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as promote sustainability.
Delta and LATAM have a strong collaboration history that started back in 2019 with the first deal between the two airlines, followed by the first code-sharing service in South America in 2020 and the significant expansion in 2021 to over 20 routes between the two regions, as well as enhanced domestic and regional connectivity.
