Investigation for Egyptian air-strikes close to an end
According to Mexico’s foreign minister, the official inquiry regarding the death of 8 Mexican tourists and 4 Egyptians in September 2015 is almost completed
An official Egyptian investigation of the incident that left 12 people dead last year's September pointed out that a travel agency was to blame for what happened, Mexico’s foreign minister Claudia Ruiz Massieu stated.
The Egyptian investigators “found that the administrative authorities and the travel agency should have had more clarity on the permit and in that sense would eventually be responsible”, the minister added.
Officials in Cairo have committed to transparency regarding the incident's inquiry. Nevertheless, the local media was forbidden to publish any details on the current investigation.
Eight Mexican tourists and four Egyptians have been accidentally killed on 13 September 2015 while heading to the Bahariya oasis in Egypt’s Western desert.
Military Egyptian security forces bombed their vehicles due to a regrettable confusion during a government operation. The Egyptian army mistook the visitors for violent extremist fighters. The air attack was conducted from a plane and a helicopter, as the tourists were traveling through a restricted area.
