Ireland expects 6.800 tourism sector jobs in 2016
According to the ITIC group review, at least 6.800 more jobs will be created in the tourism industry this year.
The positive assessment for the year 2016 comes after the tourism industry earned €7 billion in 2015, summing up a 16 per cent increase when compared to the country tourism industry previous year's figures. Also, a record number of eight million foreign tourists visited Ireland in 2015.
ITIC CEO Eoghan O’Mara Walsh commented on the figures:
“Irish tourism has performed extremely well in 2015 which is testament to the quality and competitiveness of our tourism product and industry.
“A number of external factors have also been in Ireland’s favor including healthy economies fueling a strong demand for travel in our key source markets, favorable exchange rates, and increased capacity on air and sea services to Ireland”.
Nevertheless, there are several capacity concerns which can detain Ireland's tourism industry from further growth, such as the shortage of hotel capacity in Dublin.
IBEC chairman Paul Gallagher declared:
“Dublin has significant capacity constraints and visitor number targets will not be met unless the deficit in hotel bedroom development is addressed with some urgency.
“A successful Dublin is vital for tourism to prosper throughout Ireland.”
5.000 more rooms are needed and awaiting to be built in the city capital, so that Dublin can accommodate the growing number of overseas tourists.
