Holiday packages on Groupon aim to attract more foreign visitors despite geopolitical crisis, as the Israeli Ministry of Tourism declares
The Israeli government took unusual measures to approach the country's restless situation and attract a new wave of foreign tourists.
"When you shout, 'Crisis, crisis,' it only intensifies the external crisis and makes people hesitate whether to come to Israel. When they see that we keep marketing Israel as usual, it projects business as usual", Yariv Levin, Israel’s minister of tourism declared for the Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot.
Israel's Ministry of Tourism will start selling discount holiday packages via Groupon's coupon services. The targeted tourists are mostly the Americans.
An all-inclusive seven-day trip including air transportation and hotel accommodation facilities will be charged between $1,000 and $1,400.
According to Levin, the special offers are designed "to project a sense of business as usual and encourage tourism during the months when hotel occupancies in Israel are low."
The Israeli government worries that the general unrest will cause further decrease in visitor numbers, issuing economical decline for the country, as during the past month, a series of violent events, such as stabbings and shootings of civilians across Israel and West Bank territories, brought a lowering in foreign tourists visiting the country for most of Israel’s touristic points of interest.
