ITA Airways Expands UK Presence with New Direct Flight to London City
ITA Airways is set to bolster its operations in the UK market with the introduction of a nonstop service between Rome–Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and London City Airport (LCY) beginning on March 31, 2024. This route, showcasing 12 weekly flights, will utilize the Airbus A220-100, known for its efficiency and comfort.
London City Airport, celebrated for its central location, punctuality, and high-quality service, complements Rome Fiumicino's position as a major hub, offering travelers convenient access to the heart of both cities. This new connection enhances ITA Airways' summer schedule, enabling seamless transfers from Rome to a broad network of domestic and international destinations, including sought-after locations in the Mediterranean and South America.
Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer of ITA Airways and CEO of Volare, emphasized the strategic importance of the UK market, noting the addition strengthens the airline's summer offering to include 100 weekly flights between the UK and Italy. This expansion underscores ITA Airways' commitment to catering to both business and leisure travelers, providing a direct link between two significant European capitals.
The launch follows the introduction of a four-times-daily service between Milan Linate and London City earlier in the year, with plans to increase this frequency in April 2024. Additionally, ITA Airways will commence operations to Gatwick Airport from Rome Fiumicino in June, further solidifying its presence in the UK market with a total of 100 weekly flights.
The Airbus A220-100, the smallest jetliner in ITA Airways' fleet, is specially designed for short-haul routes, offering passengers a comfortable and enjoyable flight experience. The aircraft features a cabin designed by Walter De Silva, boasting 125 seats across Business and Economy classes, with amenities such as wider seats, USB power outlets, and Wi-Fi connectivity, enhancing the overall travel experience.
ITA Airways' use of the Airbus A220-100 aligns with its sustainability goals, as the aircraft consumes 25 percent less fuel and produces fewer CO₂ emissions per seat compared to previous generation short-haul aircraft.
Travelers can book flights on this new route through ITA Airways' sales channels, including the official ita-airways.com website, the company's call center, travel agencies, and airport ticket offices, making it easier than ever to explore the rich history and culture of Rome or the bustling city life of London.
