Japan makes history by holding a wrestling contest aboard a bullet train
Japanese bullet trains were the scene of the first-ever wrestling contest.
On Monday, several Japanese professional wrestlers competed in the aisle of a train car, which had been transformed into a wrestling arena for the event. According to the event's organizers, it was the first time a wrestling contest had been staged inside of a bullet train.
The train trip, which was completely sold out, took place on the bullet train Nozomi Shinkansen, which travels between the cities of Tokyo and Nagoya.
While the train was travelling at speeds of up to 285 kilometres per hour, dozens of onlookers saw the wrestlers Minoru Suzuki and Sanshiro Takagi compete against one another inside the compartment. Minoru Suzuki, age 55, was victorious after around 30 minutes of combat, despite the participation of a number of other competitors.
The event organizer, DDT Pro-Wrestling, hired out the entire carriage, and the 75 tickets that were available were purchased within the first half an hour of the event.
It was strictly forbidden for the fighters to damage any portion of the train's interior.
