KLM Launches Premium Comfort Class, the Biggest Product Change in Years

Airlines & Airports

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has successfully completed the introduction of its Premium Comfort Class, marking the largest product change in recent years. Over the past two years, KLM has equipped all Boeing 777 and 787 aircraft with this new class, offering passengers more space, comfort, and privacy at a more affordable fare than World Business Class.

Premium Comfort Class is designed to meet the needs of both business and leisure travelers, providing an intermediate option between Economy Class and World Business Class for long-haul flights.

Extensive Aircraft Refitting Process

The conversion process took place over a year and a half, with KLM's maintenance division working diligently to equip all aircraft with the new class. Installing Premium Comfort Class on each Boeing 787 took between four and sixteen days. KLM technicians worked tirelessly to ensure the swift and successful installation, and the process was completed across all Boeing 777 aircraft, resulting in 54 aircraft now offering the new class.

Premium Comfort Class Features

The Premium Comfort Class section on board features between 21 to 28 seats depending on the aircraft type. Passengers can enjoy wider seats, more legroom, larger screens, and a footrest, as well as seats that recline further than those in Economy Class. Premium Comfort also offers its own cabin, with dedicated service and catering, designed to provide a higher level of comfort at a mid-range price.

World Business Class Upgrades

In addition to introducing Premium Comfort, KLM has upgraded its World Business Class on Boeing 777 aircraft with new seats. These updated seats now feature a sliding door for greater privacy and comfort, and all passengers in World Business Class have direct aisle access.

Positive Passenger Feedback

Early feedback from passengers has been overwhelmingly positive, with many highlighting the increased comfort and improved meals as key benefits of the new Premium Comfort Class. Barry ter Voert, Chief Experience Officer at KLM, stated: "The first feedback from our passengers has been very positive. Passengers specifically mention having more comfort and tastier meals. That exactly matches our intentions."
