LAN Airlines Adds First Boeing Dreamliner 787-9 to South American Fleet

Airline News
LAN Airlines has introduced its first 787-9 aircraft in Latin America to its fleet.

The 787-9 can carry 27 per cent more passengers and 23 per cent more cargo than the 787-8.

LAN will offer 30 Premium Business Class seats and 283 Economy Class seats.

The Company will take delivery of six Boeing 787-9 aircraft this year.

"We are excited to introduce this next generation aircraft into our fleet. It will greatly contribute to our plan of increasing our network of destinations," said Ignacio Cueto, chief executive of LAN.

"The arrival of the Boeing 787-9 to LAN makes us the only carrier in Latin America to operate both 787 models.  It also strengthens our in-flight travel experience, transporting 313 passengers over long distances with the same environmental efficiency," he commented.

Cueto also specified a modification to LAN's original request from 2007, for 32 787 aircraft, including ten 787-9s and 22 787-8s.

"We have reached an understanding with Boeing to replace four of the 787-8s with this newest model. Now we are pleased to reveal – and this is great news for our customers – that we will take delivery of a total of 14 Boeing 787-9s in the first two years," he concluded.

The Boeing 787-9 offers the same environmental efficiency as the previous model, but can travel longer distances without stopping to refuel.
