Lufthansa Introduces Free Messaging on Long-Haul Flights Starting This Summer
Starting in summer 2025, Lufthansa will introduce free messaging on all of its long-haul flights, allowing passengers to send and receive unlimited messages, including photos, without additional costs. This service will be available across all travel classes, enhancing the travel experience for all passengers flying to destinations such as the USA, Brazil, and Japan.
A Step Forward in Enhancing the Travel Experience
Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of Lufthansa Group, stated:
“The introduction of free messaging on long-haul flights is another important step in continuously improving our customers' overall travel experience. We remain focused on services that are highly relevant to our passengers.”
Unlimited Connectivity During Flights
Passengers will be able to communicate freely with loved ones on their smartphones or tablets, using familiar apps. The service builds on the success of similar offerings on short and medium-haul flights, which have already proven popular.
The Importance of Stay-Connected
Heiko Reitz, Chief Customer Officer at Lufthansa, added:
“Being reachable during a long flight has long been a basic need and an important factor for passengers when choosing an airline. Free messaging, combined with in-flight internet, will make Lufthansa’s digital service offerings even more attractive.”
Expanding the Service Across Lufthansa Group
This free messaging service is not limited to Lufthansa alone. SWISS and Austrian Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group, already offer free messaging on selected long-haul flights. The service has been in operation on short and medium-haul flights with Lufthansa and several Austrian Airlines aircraft since 2024, contributing to positive customer feedback.
With this new feature, Lufthansa continues to prioritize passenger comfort and convenience, offering enhanced connectivity during long flights.
