Mexico recorded increased international tourism in September
According to new data, while tourism numbers did not match pre-pandemic levels, the country witnessed excellent foreign tourism growth in September.
A research conducted by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) indicated that 2.77 million international visitors have visited Mexico during September 2022, accounting for a 12.9 percent rise over the previous year.
1.63 million tourists spent at least one night in one of the country’s hospitality amenities, which represents a 27.1 percent rise since, according to data. A peak for the Mexican tourism was the month of August, with a 3.1 million international tourists traffic.
However, the figures are 8.8 percent lower when compared to 2019.
Travel spendings also grew in September to a total of $1.8 billion, while average revenue for incoming commercial flights summed up $1,057.
According to data from INEGI, more than 27.5 million international tourists have entered the Mexican borders in first nine months of 2022, accounting for a 22.4 percent increase since the last year. Resorts in Cancun, Riviera Maya, Isla Mujeres, Tulum, Chetumal, and Holbox saw a total of 17 million visitor arrivals between January and September 2022.
Once again, 2019 pre-pandemic levels still remain higher, with over 32.8 million tourists during the first nine months. Nevertheless, Mexico’s total tourism spendings this year equalled $19.3 billion partially because of high inflation rates and increasing daily cost of living affecting both locals and visitors in many parts of the world.
