New Hotel in Switzerland: Adina Apartment Geneva

News

TFE Hotels has announced the opening the Adina Apartment Hotel Geneva, Switzerland's first international hotel hub. TFE Hotels' first hotel in Switzerland, the Adina, is now open.

It will be joined by nearby Intercity B&B and the Marriott to add around 1000 rooms to the local market.

As Adina Munich, its sister property, was also built in Werksviertel, and opened late 2021. The 140-key Adina Geneva is part a project of urban renewal in what has become the largest private real estate investment in Switzerland.

Developer Claude Berda spent 1.4 billion Swiss Francs ($2.27 trillion AUD) on the transformation of the former industrial site, which covers 11 hectares. It also includes several hotels, restaurants, retail and residential spaces, as well as vital infrastructure such a school and offices.

Antony Ritch (CEO of TFE Hotels) stated that the opening of Adina Geneva was a milestone in our company's expansion.

He said, "We have opened eight international Adina hotels over the past two years and entered new global markets including Austria, Singapore, and now Switzerland. So, Geneva - with its strong global financial, diplomatic, business and leisure markets - was a natural next step for us."

"Geneva has a very low proportion of apartment hotels that can cater to these seasoned travellers. The fact that the market is not competitive in this space gives us an opportunity to position Adina Hotels as a long-term market leader in Switzerland, with Zurich, Basel, and Lucerne other potential locations in the future," Ritch mentioned.

"We look forward to seeing what General Manager, Gabriel Urban, and his team can do in establishing and growing our Adina brand in Switzerland and delivering our Australian-style of hospitality to a whole new market."

TFE's European portfolio now includes 18 hotels, or around 2760 keys. There are plans to expand throughout Europe over the next year with the opening of Adina Genève.

Gabriel Urban, Adina's General Manager, stated that while apartment-style hotels are still fairly new in Switzerland, Adina is perfectly placed with contemporary and highly functional rooms design, renewable energy heating and cooling, as well as some of the most beautiful views the city has to offer.

He said that at 10 stories, we are the tallest building in Quartier-de-L'Etang precinct. This is in contrast to the typical commercial buildings of around 7 storeys. Add our East/West/South aspect to make it possible to see Mont Blanc and Jet D'eau to their south, Mont Saleve in Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes in the West, and the Jura Mountains in the East.

"Right now, the caps are white, so it's a very, very beautiful view," Urban stated. "And if you book a corner room, you get the best alpine vistas all year round."

Like other buildings in Quartier De L'Etang, Adina Geneva uses renewable energy for heat and cooling.

"Water from 45m below the surface of Lake Geneva - Europe's largest alpine lake - is essentially pumped, using hydrothermal technology, into the precinct buildings to keep the hotel cool," Gabriel mentioned. "The water is later released back into the lake. And best of all, it's all done without creating any CO2 emissions."

B Coffee Pods – another amazing piece of Swiss engineering that uses a thin layer biodegradable alga - will be offered at the hotel. This will allow coffee drinkers to recycle their beans and fertilize the hotel's gardens without going to waste.

In an architectural design that is reminiscent of New York's The Highline and other New York landmarks, the hotel shares an urban garden with neighboring buildings in the Les Atmospheres precinct. The traditional rooftop garden of the hotel has been transformed into a green roof that is alive with local fauna, 10 stories up.

"Working with Geneva's environmental guidelines for new builds, the Adina Hotel reduces energy consumption through external sun shading, magnetic window controls that automatically switch off power when the windows open; guest control of sunshades and super-efficient, high-tech building management systems to further reduce energy consumption without reducing guest comfort," Gabriel stated. "It all adds up to a clean and green stay.

The Adina is passionate about delivering Australian-style hospitality to the world. It also has a few homegrown touches such as interiors by Andrew Parr from SJB Melbourne and in-room chair designs by Chris Connell. Adina's home town of Geneva is also celebrated by books in the lobby and rooms designed by Alix Rippoll, Letu Books' charming old-town.
