Fraport Enhances Security at Frankfurt Airport with Advanced Scanners from Rohde & Schwarz
Fraport, the operator of Frankfurt Airport, has partnered with technology firm Rohde & Schwarz to upgrade its passenger security checkpoints. The contract encompasses the installation of more than 100 new security scanners, set to be implemented over the next three years at both existing and future checkpoints.
Advanced Detection Capabilities
Fraport selected Rohde & Schwarz due to the impressive performance of its R&S QPS201 scanner model. This advanced scanner utilizes innovative millimeter-wave technology combined with AI-based algorithms, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements for detecting prohibited items while significantly reducing false alarm rates.
Andreas Hägele, Head of Microwave Imaging at Rohde & Schwarz, expressed pride in this partnership, stating, “We’re proud to be part of this new model at Germany’s biggest airport and to have gained Fraport's trust. This is the continuation of a long-term strategic partnership that is beneficial for both sides.”
Commitment to Passenger Experience
Sascha König, Senior Vice President of Aviation Passenger Process at Fraport AG, emphasized the importance of this investment, saying, “We’re pleased to be installing modern passenger scanners from Rohde & Schwarz at the security checkpoints. By using state-of-the-art technology, we’re providing our customers and passengers with faster and more convenient security checkpoints while maintaining high security standards.”
Regulatory Approvals and Global Presence
Rohde & Schwarz has been serving the aviation sector since 2015, with its scanners receiving approvals from notable authorities including the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) and the US Transport Security Administration (TSA), among other national agencies.
This modernization initiative reflects Fraport’s commitment to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of its security processes at Frankfurt Airport, Germany's largest aviation hub.
