Greece to Begin the Immigrants’ Deportation on Monday

The Greek authorities will begin on Monday the deportation of immigrants arrived clandestinely on the Greek islands. About 500 people will be transferred on Monday to Turkey.

The preparations are already made as George Kyritsis, a Greek government spokesman, quoted by ANA, reported on Sunday. Two large tents to verify the legal status of immigrants were placed in Dikili Port, located on the island of Lesbos in the Aegean Sea.

As the Turkish Minister, Efkan Ala declared for the Aksam newspaper, five hundred immigrants will be transferred from Greece to Turkey Monday.

More than 6,000 immigrants from the Middle East had arrived clandestinely on the Greek islands starting 20th of March and the legal situation of many of them is uncertain. The European Union and Turkey have established that all non-EU immigrants that had arrived in Greece after March 20th whom do not qualify for asylum to be repatriated.
