Silk Road Samarkand resort in Uzbekistan to boost tourism jobs

The new brand inaugurated this year features modern accommodation, wellness and dinning services, and is expected to boost the growth of local tourism.

The luxury resort, the first of its kind in Central Asia, is expected to double the number of tourists in the area, boost the local economy as well as create more job opportunities for people aiming to build careers in the industry.

Roland Obermeier, the Cluster General manager of Samarkand Regency Amir Timur and Savitsky Plaza Hotels, commented:

“Luxury service was non-existent, and now there is a set of hotels with 4, 5-star, 5-star deluxe standards and that is something completely new. We call it a destination resort, you can spend 3 days, 4 days, a week here and experience the destination the culture, the culinary experience, all in one place. We offer congress tourism, business tourism, culinary tourism, at a level that was not there in the past”.

The inauguration of the Silk Road resort currently offers more than two thousand jobs for the local Samarkand people, who would otherwise leave the country to find work.

Umid Ulugbekov, concierge assistant at the Samarkand Regency Amir Timur Hotel, explained:

“For me, working here is a unique opportunity to gain world scale international experience without leaving my home-town, this was previously impossible in Samarkand, I am extremely lucky.”

According to the resort’s manager, Dias Khalkunov, all employees at Silk Road Samarkand benefit high-standards training and have extended competences in digitalization, communication and customer service, while having access to a wide variety of career choices. Moreover, the opening of the resort also meant the launch of the Silk Road Samarkand Fleet aimed at transporting tourists and create more sailing jobs for the locals.

Tourists are invited to visit the iconic sites of Samarkand, an iconic part of the ancient Silk Road, this way contributing to the growth of the city’s economy.
