The Five Safest Nations In The World For Women Travellers

News

Women still face difficulties while travelling overseas alone, despite the rising popularity of solo travel. Some regions, however, are outperforming others in terms of security.

Following a lengthy hiatus caused by the coronavirus crisis, travellers are no longer waiting around for a vacation companion to begin packing. Women, in particular, continue to show a strong interest in seeing the globe on their own.

Norwegian Cruise Line discovered that one-third of its passengers prefer to travel alone, with the majority of those choosing to do so being women of a certain age. Virtuoso's own research found that in 2022, ladies 65 and older had the most growth in solo tourism. The findings are significant, as just 4% of 2019's travellers were female solo travellers, but by 2022, that number had increased to 18%.

Women still face specific difficulties while travelling overseas alone, despite the rising popularity of this kind of tourism. While it would be ideal if women could go everywhere without fear of harassment or assault, this is not the case. Yet, many nations have invested considerable effort to increase women's personal security.

BBC looked at the Women's Peace and Security Index (WPS) compiled by Georgetown University, the Global Gender Gap report published by the World Economic Forum, and the Global Peace Index presented by the Institute for Economics and Peace to determine whether countries are making strides in making travel safer and more equitable for women. To better understand what it was about these top-ranked nations that made solo female travellers feel secure, the broadcaster also interviewed women who had previously been there.

As a conclusion, according to the BBC research, the safest countries for women travellers are: Slovenia, Rwanda, the United Arab Emirates, Japan and Norway.
