Vote for Edvard Munch's Masterpiece at Oslo Airport!

Airlines & Airports

For the first time, the public will choose an Edvard Munch painting for display at Oslo Airport. Vote for your favorite among three iconic pieces this summer and autumn.

This summer and autumn, Oslo Airport offers a unique opportunity for both art enthusiasts and travelers alike, as the public gets to decide which Edvard Munch painting will grace its halls. In an unprecedented move, MUNCH in Oslo, the custodian of the world's most extensive collection of Munch's works, is allowing the public to choose from three of the artist's treasured originals for display at the airport.

Since 2018, passengers traveling through Oslo Airport have been greeted by two original pieces by Edvard Munch, enhancing their travel experience with a taste of Norwegian culture. This tradition of showcasing Munch's art, seen by over 2 million passengers annually, not only enriches the journey of each traveler but also invites them to explore the larger collection at the MUNCH Museum in Oslo.

"MUNCH's mission extends beyond the museum walls; we aim to share Edvard Munch's legacy with the world," stated Tone Hansen, Director of MUNCH. The initiative to let the public select the next artwork for display underscores this mission and the museum's dedication to making art accessible to a broader audience.

Stine Ramstad Westby, Oslo Airport Director, emphasized the airport's role as more than a transit point. "With 125 artworks, including Edvard Munch's masterpieces, Oslo Airport is a hub of relaxation, shopping, culture, and art. This public vote is a new way to enrich our passengers' experiences further," she remarked.

The choices for the vote are diverse, reflecting Munch's range: a vibrant motif featuring women in nature, a thought-provoking self-portrait, or a serene landscape with waves. This selection process not only democratizes art appreciation but also invites a global audience to engage directly with Munch's legacy.

The winning painting, to be unveiled in June, promises to add a unique element to the cultural landscape of Oslo Airport, inviting travelers to delve into the rich tapestry of Norwegian art history. To participate in this historic vote, visit the MUNCH Museum's website and cast your vote for the Munch painting you wish to welcome travelers to Oslo this year.
