Welcoming Finnair's Fully Electric Ground Vehicles
As part of its strategy to minimise its environmental impact and achieve net-zero emissions in non-flight activities by the end of this year, Finnair has launched 105 modern electric-powered ground equipment units. These vehicles are part of the airline's fleet of ground support gear.
According to the airline, once these new vehicles are in service, 45 percent of Finnair's motorised ground equipment will be driven by electric or hybrid propulsion systems.
Furthermore, Finnair has switched out the plastic toothbrushes that were included in the business class and premium economy hygiene packs with bamboo toothbrushes that were supplied by The Humble Company.
Furthermore, the airline began offering carbon offsetting and converting certain shorter internal routes to bus services in the previous year. At the beginning of this month, Finnair also bought 750 metric tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from supplier Neste.
All of these initiatives are meat to hasten the airline's goal of being carbon neutral by 2045, putting it ahead of many of its rivals whose sights are set on similar achievement by the year 2050.
