Puducherry, India to host beach festival
The region will host an exclusive four-day beach festival called “I Sea Pondy 2022”. Guests are expected to attend the festivities during April 13 and April 16. The event will be held across several locations: the Gandhi Statue beach, the Chunnambar water venue, the Pondy Marina and the Paradise beach.
The festival will feature stage and fashion shows, water sports contests, music performances, kite flying, sports tournaments, racing, exhibitions and more. On the final day of the festival, an event dedicated to seafood will be organised.
“To attract more tourists, we planned to host this beach festival from April 13 to April 16. The Puducherry governor, chief minister, and other ministers will participate in the event,” Tourism Minister K. Lakshminarayanan commented.
The expected festival will take place at the same time with the Tamil New Year, celebrated on April 14 this year.
The Union Territory of Puducherry welcomes visitors from Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh each weekend and is a popular destination in the area. The idea for the festival came as an attempt to boost tourism, after the union territory had reported it was free of Covid-19 for the past few weeks.
