Singapore to ease pandemic entry regulations
Group size limits and safe distancing will as well be dropped in Singapore, after the government decided to ease Covid regulations regarding both travel and the safety of local community.
The finance minister and co-chair of the official coronavirus taskforce, Lawrence Wong, commented about the latest requirements change:
“With these changes, we can now have a well deserved breather, after two very difficult years of fighting the virus.
“But let’s always remember, we are getting closer to the finish line, but the race is not over and the pandemic is certainly not over”.
The move comes as the daily infection rates have considerably decreased and the Disease Outbreak Response System Condition (Dorscon) level alert in the island city-state has been recently lowered from orange to yellow.
Health Minister Ong Ye Kung also declared:
“On the whole, things continue to look up for us. Our social resilience is strong and now we are in a comfortable position. We can therefore afford to take further steps to restore pre-Covid-19 normalcy.”
Nevertheless, the previous rules will still apply for unvaccinated people. Similarly, all individuals will be required to wear face masks while indoors or when using public transportation.
As travel accounts as a major contributor to Singapore’s economy, the measures come to reinforce the expected revival of the hub’s tourism sector.
