Thailand: bomb attacks in Hua Hin resort

At least four people were killed and dozens more were injured, including nine foreign tourists, in the explosions of several bombs Thursday night and Friday morning in Thailand, especially in the health resort Hua Hin, according to a authorities quoted by AFP. The last two victims are the result of a new twin explosion produced Friday morning, one in Hua Hin, the other in the city of Surat Thani, 400 km south.

Thursday night, two bombs exploded in the tourist resort of Hua Hin in the Gulf of Thailand, killing two and wounding 10 people, among them more foreign tourists, reported on Twitter a BBC correspondent, quoting the local police, reports Reuters. The bombs were hidden in flowerpots and were detonated using mobile phones one a half an hour difference from each other, the police said according to the BBC reporter Jonathan Head.


According to Thai police radio, two explosions occurred shortly before midnight, reports DPA. The local media reported that the explosion occurred at an intersection where there were many bars frequented by local and foreign tourists. More, the police added that at least ten people were injured and two are in critical condition. Bombings occur regularly in the three provinces in southern Thailand affected by the insurgents’ attacks, but it is rare that such attacks to target areas frequented by tourists.

The explosions come a day before a special weekend that celebrates the Queen's birthday, which coincides with Mother's Day in Thailand.
