The Entire World is Invited to Enter the Metaverse at WRRC Global Summit in Riyadh
A distinguished gathering of tourism leaders from Riyadh will attend the 22nd World Travel & Tourism Council's (WTTC), Global Summit in Saudi Arabia.
The session is supported by a metaverse experience that allows potential investors to look for investment opportunities and participate in sessions that will be streamed live from the Saudi capital.
The Kingdom's use of the Summit's metaverse is an example of how it is already implementing the three-year Digital Tourism Strategy, which was launched earlier this year as the next step in its development.
Saudi will encourage experimentation over the next three years in order to support technology innovators, test new digital tourism solutions, and provide extended reality applications for tourism. It also plans to integrate technology that makes Hajj visits safer, more efficient, and more comfortable than ever before for millions of pilgrims.
Another important step on that path is the Summit's use of this technology.
For the first time, the Summit, being held from 28 November to 1 December in Riyadh is being live-streamed to the general public, and those attending virtually can choose to join some of the Livestream sessions via the metaverse or on the public live stream.
This is a first for Saudi Arabia, said His Excellency Ahmad Al Khateeb, Minister of Tourism.
"WTTC will arrive in Riyadh as tourism enters a new era of recovery and we welcome the world to join them virtually in our metaverse. Bringing together global leaders from both the public and private sector, the Summit will be fundamental in building the better, brighter future the sector deserves and technology and innovation will be key to our collective future success."
The metaverse experience was designed to be simple to use and engaging. It also provides a unique introduction to the metaverse's potential to support and enhance physical events for both those who are present and those who wish to interact virtually. Participants can create their avatars, view the live sessions, and make appointments with exhibitors.
The user can explore Saudi Arabia as a tourist destination and see how technology is being used to transform tourism. Session highlights will be shown, and insights into the discussions will be gained. It will allow users to communicate with global audiences by allowing them to discuss current topics via avatars using voice and text chat.
Individuals will be able to interact with the investor gallery and ask questions and understand the Saudi Arabian investment opportunities.
The theme for this year's event is "Travel for a Better Future". It will feature global thought leaders who will discuss the urgent issues affecting post-pandemic tourism and travel. The event will include a lineup of internationally acclaimed speakers, including Ban Ki-moon (ex-Secretary-General of the United Nations) and Lady Theresa May (ex-Prime Minister of Britain).
Saudi Arabia has been investing heavily in tourism projects that foster innovation. The most prominent is NEOM, which has been voted the world's most ambitious tourist project. The futuristic city in North West Saudi Arabia is a showcase for world-leading design, immersive digital experiences, smart cities, and research areas.
This global gathering of experts in tourism will hopefully foster a greater spirit of collaboration among countries as they travel along innovative development pathways that are vital to the sector's sustainability.
The Summit will be held in Riyadh, from 28 November through 1 December. It is expected to be the most important travel and tourism event this year.
