The company revealed that the top 5 most searched destinations in 2016 are five famous cities and a less known European capital.
Google has released the world’s top five trending cities according to searches on its platform, and while the statistics only capture US search stats, they definitely reflect global destination trends.
Coming in first place is Reykjavik, not a surprise considering Iceland’s huge surge in popularity over the last few years. As Google reported, the audience most likely to be interested in this destination is formed by 25-34 year old women that are interested in hiking and choose flights from KLM.
Havana, the second destination of the top, is a place where the time seems not to pass so fast and where one can see even today vintage cars and interesting architecture. More, Cuba only recently opened its borders to US tourists and you’ve got yourself an interesting holiday destination that’s definitely worth a Google search. The target that searched for a holiday in Havana is 35-44 years old, movie lover and fan of JetBlue.
Toronto (ranking 3) launched in 2016 a partnership with Air Canada to attract tourists from the eastern part of the United States (most Google searches were from Michigan), and the exchange rate difference between the Canadian dollar and the US has contributed to an increase in the number of tourists.
