Travelodge Expands Spanish Portfolio with Acquisition of Six Hotels

Mergers and Appointments (MICE)

Travelodge acquires six hotels in key Spanish cities from Louvre Hotels Group, doubling its presence in Spain and enhancing its European market strategy.

Travelodge, the UK's pioneering budget hotel brand, has significantly expanded its presence in Spain by acquiring six hotels from Louvre Hotels Group. This move adds 773 rooms to Travelodge's portfolio and strategically positions the brand in Spain's competitive accommodation market.

The hotels, previously operating under the Hotel Campanile brand, are located in Alicante, Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga, and Murcia. Five of these properties have been acquired on a freehold basis, with one on a long leasehold. They will now operate under the Travelodge brand, which is part of a broader strategy to enhance the company's footprint in key Spanish cities.

Jo Boydell, CEO of Travelodge, highlighted the strategic importance of this acquisition, stating, "Spain is an important market for us, with an established presence and a seasoned local management team. This expansion not only doubles our presence in Spain but also provides a strong foundation for further growth and brand enhancement across the country."

This acquisition comes on the heels of Travelodge's creation of a new property holding group earlier this year, named Travelodge PropCo Group, which acquired 66 freehold and long leasehold assets in the UK. The ongoing expansion underscores Travelodge's commitment to increasing its market share in Europe by offering affordable, quality accommodation for both business and leisure travelers.

Travelodge's current Spanish operation consists of six well-performing hotels, and with this recent expansion, the company is poised to capitalize on significant ongoing opportunities within the Spanish market. The acquisition aligns with Travelodge's identified top 20 key markets in Spain, where there is a notable demand for good quality, low-cost, branded accommodation.

With these strategic moves, Travelodge is set to provide more choices and great value to travelers across Spain, bolstering its position as a leader in the budget hotel sector both in the UK and internationally.
