Visiting the UK during the Royal Wedding in 2018
If your trip to the UK and the Royal Wedding are during the same period, you may want to take advantage of this opportunity. Here’s what you should know about the big event.
Chances are you’ve probably planned your trip to the UK way before the announcement for the Royal Wedding was made. Or you may be part of the other category of UK tourists, that decided to visit the UK precisely for this reason. Regardless of this aspect, one thing’s for sure – you’ll definitely enjoy your UK holiday even more thanks to one of the greatest events on the planet – the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
With the countdown in single digits now, everyone’s excited about watching and (for the luckiest ones) attending the royal wedding. The big event will be held at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle this Saturday, May 19. The ceremony at the church is scheduled for 12 pm and following that, the happily married couple will get into a carriage and go on a ride through town. Later on, they will return to the castle by the Long Walk.
If people were allowed to camp just outside Westminster Abbey for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, the same rules do not apply for the wedding in Windsor. However, this doesn’t mean people will have no chance to watch the big event.
Several big screens will be placed along the Long Walk and in Alexandra Gardens and people will be able to see the entire ceremony live.
If your UK holiday did not initially include Windsor, but now you’ve changed your mind and want to visit this city during the big day, there are some essential aspects worth knowing. For instance, if you plan to drive to Windsor this Saturday, make sure you leave your hotel as early as possible. Certain roads to the city will be closed after 10 am.
In order to ensure you have a safe place to park your car, it’s best to pre-book a parking space at Windsor Racecourse or Review Ground, as there are over 6,000 such spaces available for pre-booking. The opening hours for these car parks will be at 4 am on the morning of May 19. Of course, there are other places where you can park, one of them is The Windsor Boy’s School, but the rule that applies here is the first come - first served.
“The Review Ground car park can be accessed from the A332 (Sheet Street Road) which is outside the road closure area. Directions will be sent out along with the confirmation details when tickets are reserved. Those coming from the M25, Staines or Old Windsor will need to take the signed diversion route from the Runnymede roundabout along the A30, towards Egham. Anyone who has not pre-booked their parking is advised not to attempt to drive into central Windsor,” was a statement that the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead made.
In London, visitors will have the chance to watch the wedding on big screens set up in places such as National Maritime Museum, Skylight and Galvin at Windows. Worth mentioning is that road will close starting at 6 am this Saturday. Thus, if you plan to go to Windsor from London, the best option is to take the train. And to leave early in the morning.
All things considered, your holiday in the UK will be a unique experience due to this special event.
