Heli Acquires Great Canadian Ski Tenure and Lodge
Heli announced that it has purchased the Great Canadian Heli Skiing and Heather Mountain Lodge
Heli announced this week that the company has completed the purchase of Great Canadian Heli Skiing and Heather Mountain Lodge, located halfway between Revelstoke and Golden in British Columbia at the East gate to Glacier National Park.
The lodge and ski tenure will remain the leaders in boutique heli-skiing as well as the summer gateway to Canada's Glacier National Park.
Andy Culp, Brock Strasbourger, and the founders of Heli life are both self-described "recovering banksers". Culp and Strasbourger realized that vertical integration was the best option for their business. They have thousands of relationships and powerful customer insights. "We looked at a lot of options over the past couple of years, but couldn't find the right moment until now. Strasbourger says that the purchase made sense both from a strategic and an investment thesis perspective.
Greg and Maaike Porter, the owners of Best Day Evers for 23 years, stated that they are selling their business. We have created a network of guests, employees, partners, and new owners who share our vision. As we assist with the transition, we look forward to working closely with them for the next year.
Culp answered a question about the impact of this purchase on Great Canadian Heli-Skiing & Heli. He said, "Very little will be different." Culp has been in the industry long enough to understand that their success is due to the staff at the lodges and guides. From the beginning, Maaike and Greg knew that we wanted the whole team to stay. We also felt strongly about respecting not only Great Canadian Heli-Skiing's legacy but all the operators we consider friends and colleagues.
Culp paused to explain how it felt to secure the Great Canadian Heliskiing Asset. He said, "Interior British Columbia was where the pioneers of heli-skiing found the sport - it has the best conditions and the most interesting terrain. It is an honor to be given one of the most prestigious trophies in the world.
Great Canadian Heli-Skiing, Heather Mountain Lodge
Great Canadian Heli-Skiing was established in 1988 in prime heli-skiing land. It is located in the famous Selkirk and Purcell mountain ranges, which are just north of the birthplace for heli-skiing. Rogers Pass, Canada's ski-touring mecca, is its neighbor. This company was the first to offer heli-skiing for small groups and unlimited vertical. The Heather Mountain Lodge, a classicly Canadian timber-framed lodge, was built in 1996 as a luxury staging area for winter heli-skiing and summer adventures in Canada’s Glacier National Park.
