Airlines & Airports

London Gatwick Airport partners with the Department for Work and Pensions to host a jobs fair, attracting 350 jobseekers and promoting a wide range of employment opportunities across its 400 organizations, supporting the airport's growth and regional development.

In a significant push towards bolstering local employment and fostering regional development, London Gatwick Airport, in collaboration with the Department for Work and Pensions and Jobcentre Plus, recently hosted a jobs fair that drew in over 350 jobseekers. This initiative was part of a broader effort to showcase the myriad job and career opportunities available across the various organizations operating within the airport premises.

The event, held on 15 February at Croydon College, featured employers from renowned brands like Wizz Air, SSP, and JD Wetherspoons, who engaged with prospective candidates about roles spanning hospitality, baggage handling, security, cabin crew, sales, and administration. Remarkably, of those who attended, nearly 200 individuals advanced to the next stage of the application process, highlighting the fair's success in connecting local talent with meaningful employment opportunities.

This jobs fair is just one of several initiatives underpinning London Gatwick's Employment, Skills and Business Strategy. This strategy is dedicated to shaping the airport's future direction by developing opportunities that benefit the region, aligning with Gatwick's 'Decade of Change' sustainability policy which aims to contribute to workforce skills partnerships and initiatives within the local and regional communities.

Barry Cullen, Employment and Skills Lead at London Gatwick, emphasized the airport's commitment to being an inclusive workplace, noting that the diverse roles available contribute to a strong sense of community and teamwork. He also highlighted the potential growth opportunities presented by the airport's Northern Runway Project, which is expected to create around 14,000 new jobs and significantly boost the regional economy.

In addition to the jobs fair, London Gatwick has launched a recruitment portal, centralizing all airport vacancies to facilitate job search for prospective employees and help partnering organizations build robust teams. This initiative aims to enhance passenger experiences by ensuring high-quality service across all touchpoints.

Looking ahead, London Gatwick is set to host another jobs fair on 12 March at its STEM Centre, with 18 employers offering hundreds of live vacancies. This and other recruitment events are pivotal to London Gatwick's investment in its long-term future and its commitment to regional economic development and sustainability.
