The Number Of Foreign Visitors To Brazil Is Expected To Rise This Year
According to Brazil's Ministry of Tourism, there will be a significant increase in tourist visits to Brazil in 2023.
The Brazilian Ministry of Tourism has announced that the country welcomed 3.1 million foreign visitors between January and November of 2022. This number is up from the 2.9 million visits recorded in both 2020 and 2021.
The country's many attractions, from its famous beaches and natural beauties to its storied past and bustling metropolises, have contributed much to its expansion. Furthermore, the diversified and tasty food and low pricing make Brazil a desirable holiday destination for those on a tight budget.
Brazil has also made major efforts in recent years to attract tourists, which has helped boost the country's popularity among international travellers. Over 80,000 tourist visas were given in 2022, allowing citizens of 101 countries to legally enter Brazil. The government has recently relaxed its visa rules, making it simpler for visitors from the United States, Canada, Australia, and Japan to come and visit. Currently, citizens of approximately half of the world's nations may enter the country without a visa, making vacation preparations that much easier.
At the same time, increases in domestic bus travel in Brazil may be attributed to an influx of foreign visitors. When travelling inside Brazil, a growing number of foreign visitors are opting to ride the bus. According to data compiled by Busbud, the industry-leading bus ticketing platform, a whopping 93% of customers who have bought bus tickets on the site for travel in Brazil in 2023 are not Brazilians. This pattern is indicative of a general up-tick in visitors from other countries. This upward tendency is significant because it indicates that foreign visitors are eager to learn about Brazil's many regions and local customs.
Almost half of all bus reservations on Busbud are made by visitors from outside of the borders. These visitors come from Argentina, France, the U.K., and Israel. The low cost and ease of bus travel, as well as the chance to explore more of the nation and learn about local culture in an authentic way, are likely contributing factors.
“We are thrilled to see such a strong interest in bus travel among international tourists in Brazil. It is a testament to the country’s appeal as a travel destination and its potential for growth in domestic tourism. We are dedicated to providing the most convenient and affordable transportation options for our customers and look forward to continuing to support the growth of tourism in Brazil”, commented Pedro Alfaro, VP of Global Supply at Busbud.
Many tourists, according to the tour operator, are choosing multi-city trips so that they may see as much of Brazil as possible during their stay. Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Florianópolis, Foz do Iguaçu, Paraty, Armaço dos Buzios, and Salvador are among the most popular Brazilian cities visited by foreign bus visitors.
Annual carnival events are another major tourist attraction. The Brazilian Tourism Board reported that reservations for flights to Brazil in time for carnival 2023 have increased. The fact that over 80,000 visitors have booked their trips already is a strong sign that Brazil's tourism sector is on the road to recovery after the 55,000 visitors lost during the coronavirus outbreak. The majority of these visitors come from places like Argentina, the United States, Portugal, Chile, and France. More people than ever are flocking to Brazil to experience the carnival, which is understandable given the country's reputation as a tourism hotspot because to its elaborate costumes, upbeat music, and thrilling parades.
As a plus, more tourists, especially from other countries, are spending more money in Brazil, which is helping the country's economy. Over the next decade, the travel and tourism sector in Brazil is projected to account for over 2% of GDP annually and create over 1.8 million employment, as reported by the WTTC.
In addition to boosting employment in traditionally tourist-focused industries like hotels, restaurants, and transportation, this up-tick in visitor numbers has a multiplier effect, spawning new positions in fields like construction and retail.
