UNWTO supports tourism in Ecuador following devastating earthquake
UNWTO Members States representatives have announced their full assistance regarding rebuilding of Ecuador's tourism industry after earthquake striking on April 16th 2016
World Tourism Organization officials showed full support for the South American country hit by a tragic 7.8 Richter scale earthquake three weeks ago.
With the occasion of the 60th meeting of the UNWTO Commission for the Americas hosted in Havana, Cuba, participants stated that “Ecuador is a tourism success story; a country where tourism supports many livelihoods” and engaged to “work, alongside UNWTO, to support Ecuador with the planning process for the rehabilitation of a sustainable tourism offer on the Coast of Ecuador and the promotion of tourism to the region”.
Moreover, UNWTO officials strongly believe that the country will succeed in recovering and further developing its tourism industry.
“Ecuador will continue to shine as an increasingly important tourism destination in the Americas and that tourism will continue to play a vital role in advancing the country’s development,” the joint statement quotes.
